Sebastian snags role as Captain America’s sidekick

Sebastian didn’t get the role of Captain America, but it’s all good because apparently he’s been tapped to play Captain America’s sidekick, Bucky Barnes, in the upcoming Marvel franchise. I’m pretty sure that this is legit, but as always, take this with a grain of salt. Either way I’m happy that he’s getting noticed by major studios.

Sebastian Stan, one of the actors who tested for the title role of Marvel’s “Captain America” which ultimately went to Chris Evans, has nabbed the key role of Captain America’s sidekick Bucky Barnes.

In comic book lore, Barnes, a teenaged orphan, was too young to join the army but became one camp’s mascot. When he discovered Captain America’s identity, he joined Captain America as a partner in his Nazi-fighting escapades. The character died in Captain America’s final World War II adventure.

After decades of being “dead,” the character was revived in 2005 and brought back into modern comic continuity, initially as a covert assassin named Winter Soldier.

It is not clear if the movie version of Barnes sets up the Winter Soldier identity. Marvel would only confirm that Stan is playing Barnes.

Insiders also say Stan has signed on for five or six pictures.

Shooting on the Joe Johnston-directed pic starts this summer in Europe.

Stan, repped by CAA and Brookside Management, starred in NBC’s short-lived “Kings” and had a stint on the CW’s “Gossip Girl.” His feature film career has been on a roll of late, having recently appeared in “Hot Tub Time Machine” and wrapped the Joel Silver-produced thriller “The Apparition” and Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.”

Ashley Green sat down with MTV and talked about she and Sebastian’s role in The Apparition which is finishing its last stretch of shooting here in Los Angeles.

“It’s psychological and it’s a thriller, and it’s going to be scary as hell. I can tell you that much [from just] shooting it,” she said. “I’ve gone to some different places that I didn’t think I could go, emotionally and physically.”

Greene couldn’t delve into too many details, but she did throw out a couple of bones. “Basically, [the movie] is centered around two characters: myself and Sebastian Stan. We… get haunted by this supernatural being and the whole film is us figuring out exactly what this thing wants and how to get it to leave us alone. Through that, we figure out some things about ourselves and our relationship as well.”

This also pretty much confirms that Sebastian is playing Ashely’s love interest in the film, and that Tom Felton is paying the college student that causes the haunting.

According to ComicBookMovie.Com Sebastian is one of three front runners for the lead role in Captain America. I have no idea how reliable this info is, so take it with a grain of salt…

According to our Marvelous moles, it’s down to three – Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan and Channing Tatum.

The Gossip Girl actor, Sebastian Stan, who we are told is the favorite to swing the star-spangled shield next July. The problem is Marvel Films big-cheese Kevin Feige has made it crystal clear (on numerous occasions) Captain America will be played by an American and Stan hails from Romania. But apparently he’s done a solid enough job in his screen-tests to make the key decision-makers give second thoughts to that stance.

That is where we stand as of this moment on Captain America. With production is expected to start this coming summer in London, the final decision must be made soon.

Sebastian in the running for Captain America?

This is new enough (and quite frankly surprising enough) for posting, so here we go. Entertainment Weekly’s Hollywood Insider is reporting that Sebastian (among other actors) is in the running for Marvel’s big screen adaption of Captain America. Yeah, I had not idea about this either…

Today’s rumor mill throws G.I. Joe’s Channing Tatum into a mix of 20-something-year-olds that include the known, Ryan Phillippe, Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans; the semi-known, Tron’s Garrett Hedlund (UPDATE: We’re now hearing that Garrett is no longer in the running), Cloverfield’s Mike Vogel, Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan; and the unknown, Young and the Restless’s Wilson Bethel. The studio held lengthy screen tests last weekend for at least four of those actors (Hedlund has not yet screen-tested, though sources believe he is the studio’s first choice), and Marvel is expected to have a decision soon.

Now, as talented as I think Sebastian is as an actor, I don’t think that he is right for the Captain America character… however, he was second choice to play Kirk in the Star Trek reboot so maybe he can pull it off. Anyway, I’m still thrilled that he’s in the running and wish him the best of luck.

News on Carter’s return to Gossip Girl

Here is a small tidbit on Carter’s return to Gossip Girl. It only confirms that Carter is coming back (which we already knew), and that it has something to do with Serena’s father. I’m not sure when Carter will return but when I do, I’ll be sure to post it as soon as possible. The spoiler is below.

2.Carter Baizen (recurring guest star Sebastian Stan) will be making a return this season, and it’s supposedly tied to the arrival of Eric and Serena’s father (Billy Baldwin). Source

Sebastian cast in “The Apparition?”

According to IMDB, Sebastian has been cast opposite Ashley Green in a new supernatural thriller called, The Apparition. The very brief synopsis is as follows…

A couple are haunted by a supernatural presence that is unleashed during a college experiment.

So far the only info I have on this is from IMDB, so take it with a grain of salt at this point. However, I’ll keep a look out for more info and try to confirm this. When I know more, I’ll let everyone know.

Sebastian cast in “The Black Swan”

According to Variety and Fear Net Sebastian has been cast in a new film starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, and Winona Ryder called “The Black Swan.” When more info surfaces, I’ll let everyone know.

Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming thriller The Black Swan just got its latest cast member. According to Variety, Gossip Girl’s Sebastian Stan will be joining the previously announced Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder. The film centers on Portman’s character, a New York balleria and her rivalry with another dancer.

Red Band Trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine

Here is a look at the red band trailer for Hot Tube Time Machine. Sebastian isn’t in it, as I expect a green band trailer will show up soon, however, I have to say I LOLed quite a few times while watching this.

As I’ve stated before, this is a red banned trailer so it’s NSFW.

Edit: Looks like who ever uploaded that trailer didn’t have permission, so the video has been removed from You Tube. Oh well.

Trailer for Spread now online

The trailer for Spread is now online at Apple’s Website. Unfortunately Sebastian is barely in it, so I will not be adding it to SS Media. However, it’s still worth a look. Spread opens in limited release August 14th, 2009.

News on Spread and Large Gallery Update

Firstly, I’ve got news on Spread, the film Sebastian worked on with Ashton Kutcher last summer in L.A. According to the official twitter for Spread, @SpreadTheMovie, the film will open in theaters August 14th, 2009 and the premiere will be in Las Vegas sometime before that. Hopefully Sebastian will attend and we’ll get pictures.

Speaking of pictures, I also have production stills of Sebastian in Spread (finally!) which have been added to the gallery. And, thanks to the awesomness of Michele @ LukeGrimes.Net, we have scans of Sebastian in Black Book Magazine and L.A. Confindential. He’s also sent us HQs of Sebastian’s photoshoot for Out Magazine.
